Best New Guestroom Designs
Any frequent traveler knows that not every guestroom is the same. There are some guestrooms that simply blow you away, and some that are lackluster at best. Here are some of the six best new guestroom designs from hotels that have opened or are opening in 2021.
All of brand Proper’s hotels are lovely, but there’s a reason why the new property in L.A.’s Broadway Corridor has received a fair bit of attention ahead of its July opening, being called one of the most anticipated high-design hotels of 2021 by Architectural Digest. Designer Kelly Wearstler combines local and vintage touches for a gorgeous, warm, rich aesthetic that’s sure to please. Don’t forget to check out the hotel’s rooftop pool and library lounge while you’re there.
2. Salt Hotels Hutton Brickyards
Talk about a hotel that brings the outdoors in. Hutton Brickyards is located just within reach of traveling New Yorkers, and the resort-style property includes more than 30 cabins and suites, all of which are designed to provide both privacy and an airy, fresh feel, thanks to lots of tandem indoor-outdoor spaces and water views.
When you think of design-heavy, impressive, jaw-droppingly gorgeous hotels, you probably don't expect to find them in Chattanooga, but that’s just what you’ll find this winter, if you book a stay at Life House Chattanooga. This brand, which already has outposts in tourist hot spots like Miami and Nantucket, is creating a luxurious step back in time, with private suites situated within historic train cars. But these train cars are anything but stuffy. They’re chic, they’re gorgeous and they’re complemented by the hotel’s other, equally amazing spaces, such as a cinema and recording studio.
Dubai doesn’t do anything small or simple, and the same can be said for the city’s hotels, including the new ME Dubai. Completely designed by Dame Zaha Hadid, this hotel is a stunner, no matter which way you look at it. Guestrooms are vibrant, plush and filled with a mishmash of elegant curves and lines, textures and fabrics. Conde Nast Traveler described the rooms as such: “Like stepping onto the bridge of a super-slick spaceship, the monochromatic guestrooms flow around you with curved walls, wavy furnishings, puddles of plush rugs and a bathroom that verges on trippy.”
In New Orleans’ Garden District, The Chloe blends the Big Easy’s taste for the extravagant debauchery with a more upscale, high-brow vibe. Set within a historic home, the hotel is only made up of 14 guestrooms that, upon first glance, look like just a normal room in a normal house, but each is a treat, with interesting spaces and special touches that differ from room to room, whether that special touch is an alcove or a wardrobe with a hidden door (though it just leads to the bathroom, not Narnia). You get a little bit of it all here — southern charm, luxury and a playful mood befitting New Orleans.
An Auberge Resorts Collection property, Stanly Ranch is a new offering this summer, for anyone flocking to Napa Valley. The guestrooms and suites get a modern, luxurious, yet-laid-back vibe that’s helped along by a blend of natural woods and fabrics, rough and smooth textures and plenty of natural light and mixed indoor-outdoor spaces.
7. Hotel Maslina - Hvar Croatia
Having just been to Croatia I was really blown away by this new property, designed by LA.M Studio in Paris. Maslina means "olive" in Croatian, and there are lots of shady spots under olive trees to relax. Hvar City and Stari Grad are quite beautiful towns, but I really didn't want to leave the premises of the hotel. If you find yourself near Hvar, definitely make a trip here! Everything is wonderful about this hotel.
